This Week at Graileys: Burgundy Shines!

This week, the Stars of the Week go to Burgundies white and red:  2011 Domain d’Ardhuy Grand Cru Corton Charlemagne La Vigne Dieu and “entry level” wines from Madam Leroy that are the farthest from entry level Burgundy. The ’11 Ardhuy Grand Cru Corton Charlemagne La Vigne Dieu was spectacular! This is an absolute steal for premium quality Grand Cru white Burgundy that you want in your glass. The wine is made in a way to express more advanced characteristics and it drinks like a champ! The aromatics are bright and expressive of wild yellow flowers and orchard fields while the palate is a beautiful continuation of ripe apples with hints of quince, lemon preserves, vanilla bean, truffle and cream corn. The minerals are beautiful and explosive; righteously balancing out the weight and ripeness of these first-class Chardonnay grapes. This is a drink now Grand Cru white Burgundy from extremely old vines that will blow any true ‘Burghound’ away!  We have 24 bottles left, grab a sixer for your weekend! $169.95/btl | $1019.70/6pk

2011 ardhuy corton charlemagne la vigne dieux

For the red spectrum, we tried the new library release from possibly the best Pinot Noir producer in the world and most definitely the best of Burgundy in our opinion: Leroy. Madame Leroy makes the most profoundly floral and amazingly flavorful Burgundy in the entire region for a fraction of the price to what her counterparts at the top charge in Burgundy like DRC, Rousseau, Dujac or Rouget! Leroy lives in Beaune and today we tried “entry level” wines that express the true purity of the vines. 2009 Leroy Cote de Beaune Village, 2009 Leroy Prnand Vergelesses and 2011 Leroy Chorey les Beaune. These are all vineyards by her house in Beaune and the quality in these wines could not be higher! Leroy is how to experience what true Burgundy should taste and feel like… Truffles, dense forest floor, wild crushed raspberries, foraged mushrooms, wild rose and multidimensional spice. They are all at a great drinking stage right now, especially the ripe 2009 vintage with its abundant juicy red berry fruit. The best part about Leroy is that these beauties will continue to shine so for the next 3 decades- only Leroy creates wines with unmatched longevity!  These are very limited in quantity. Please inquire if you are interested in trying these striking wines from Burgundy’s greatest. kim@graileys.com
