Epic Friday

By: AJ McClellan

Friday night was truly epic. We tasted our members on some killer white wines from our cellar and then the members started to pull some bottles from their lockers. The wines opened number to many to mention but below are a the highlights from the night….

1997 Remoissenet Richebourg – A great bottle of wine with subtle red cherries and a big mineral earthiness. After a while in the glass the wine blew up to show slight spice with a long finish.

1999 d’Auvenay Bize Leroy Auxey Duresses – I was amazed with this wine. The nose showed apricot, pear, almond extract, and honeysuckle. The palate was creamy and rich with the texture of honey and brilliant balance.

1996 Dom Perignon Oenotheque – This was my first time to try a Oenotheque, and after tasting it I can see why it commands such lofty prices. The wine had just the right amount of effervescence, a slight simmer of bubbles. The nose was intoxicating with pealed peaches, quince, limestone, and lemon. The palate was wonderful with apricots, and fresh granny smith apples.

1999 Hudelot Noellat Richebourg – Each time I taste this wine it blows me away. The nose shows classic Burgundian notes of tilled soil, red cherries, wild mushrooms, and a rocky minerality. After some time in the glass this wine blows up showing notes of plum, and vanilla bean with a wonderful finish of forest floor and cooking spice.

2001 Palmaz Cabernet Sauvignon – This wine is fast becoming my go to bottle for a delicious California Cabernet. The nose reminds me of the purple smarties with a light coating of milk chocolate paired with a fine cigar. The palate shows excellent fruit with a backing of spice and a long finish.

1999 Vincent Giradin Chevalier Montrachet – This is a great bottle of wine but it takes some time to come around in the glass. Upon opening the wine has a distinct popcorn nose with a hint of sulfur. If you have the discipline to leave the wine alone for an hour and a half you will find that the wine fills out keeping the popcorn but blowing off the sulfur and gaining in its stead a soft fruitiness and a zingy minerality.

1982 Pichon Lalande – This wine has been in my top five since I first tasted it. This bottle was absolutely perfect, the tell tale green pepper nose with a hint of jalapeño that I normally find off-putting is a integral part of this wine adding to the complexity and completing the wine.

NV Jacques Selosse Extra Brute – Another first for me, this bottle was amazing. The small production NV Champagne tasted as if it had been aged for 20+ years showing a nuttiness that you would expect in well aged Vintage Champagne.  After the almond extract was a layer or shaved green apples and peaches followed by a subtle floral note and a massive minerality.

1996 Claude Dugat Charmes Chambertin GC – Phil opened this bottle almost three hours before service. When I first tasted the wine it was massive and tight but with a beautiful core of fruit and tannin. I tasted the wine again at the end of the night (6 hours later) and it was singing. The tannin, while still prevalent, had mellowed out considerably and the fruit had blow up showing black and red cherries with currants and raspberries.

1998 Meo Camuzet Vosne Romanee 1er Cros Parantoux – Yet another first for me. Cros Parantoux is a tiny vineyard nestled in next to Richebourg and produces wine that is, in my opinion, worth a Grand Cru designation. This bottle was fantastic showing great fruit notes of dark cherry and blackberries. The palate was full of earth and minerality with dark forest floor and a long finish.

1998 Armond Rousseau Chambertin GC – Another fantastic bottle of wine. Rousseau is quickly becoming one of my favorite producers with their earthy style of wine making. This bottle showed sour cherry and forest floor on the nose. The palate was soft and lush with a brilliant finish.

1989 Armand Rousseau Gevrey Chambertin 1er Clos st Jacques – Very similar to the Chambertin but with a little more funk on the palate.

1978 Cheval Blanc – I love good Bordeaux and this bottle is just the ticket. Trumpet mushrooms with a rocky minerality and dark dried fruits on the nose. The palate is a dream with just the right amount of earth and a finish of cigar box.

1969 Remoissenet Nuits St Georges 1er Les Cailles – Mossy with a note of dusty black and red cherries dusty earth notes with a big barnyard lurking in the background. The palate shows old pruned fruit with big barnyard and old funky forest floor.

1976 Chateau Gilette – A great way to finish the night. This wine was amazing with soft quince, pear, white peach, and honeysuckle on the nose. The palate was thick and honeyed with a surprising amount of freshness for a wine that has been around for 35 years. Although only in the bottle for 13 years :)

96 Drouhin Musigny – This was initially tight like most of the very structured 96s but fleshed out over the course of the evening.  This wine had lovely cherry fruit with a touch of strawberry and mushroom earthiness.  Not a spectacular showing so I am on the fence about how this develops.

79 Domaine de Chevalier – My first time having a wine from this Chateau.  Still had lots of black toned fruits available on the palate, with signature Graves slate and minerality.  A fun and intellectual wine that still delivered on the palate.

70 Latour  - What a beautiful classy wine.  A pretty Pauillac with loads of leather, espresso, pencil lead and a soft silky and smooth finish.  Just a sexy bottle of juice.

94 Jaboulet Cornas – Was itching to try this wine as I am a huge Jaboulet fan.  Served blind I got a wide range of responses, but most everyone picked up on the meaty bloody iron component that was telltale syrah.  I loved how expressive this was on the nose and it followed through with a gorgeous palate of black raspberry and plum.  So fun to drink these mature wines blind and this one delivered.

07 Termanthia – My first time trying this wine.  A bit out of my wheelhouse.  Big thick and rich, a little too much of everything.  I can see people being a fan of this as it had tons of fruit and structure.

07 Numanthia – Same as above.

08 Thibault Liger Belair Aloxe Corton “Toppe aux Vert” – I am a huge fan of this producer and his 08 wines are nothing less than stunning.  For a premier cru wine this delivers far above its pay grade.  Loads of black tea, black cherry and Asian spices dominate.  This is the kind of burgundy I can enjoy drinking day in and day out.

98 Dugat Py Chambertin – Classily and distinctly Chambertin.  It has a texture and flavor profile that is easily identified as Chambertin.  Lovely black tea notes again with a little mushroom and forest floor with deep dark cherry fruit that is silky in texture and so linear on the palate.  I know Dugat gets a rap for making some larger scaled wines and this was not shy, but this had all the stuffing to go another 30 years.  Would love to try this again in 10!

Friday Night Dinner and Wine

By: Philip Robert

We had a great dinner catered by Derrick Paez served featuring an outstanding lineup of Ivan’s wines. Each wine pairing matched wonderfully with the dish but the end pairing of French toast topped with foie gras and gilled cherries with the Los Collas blew my mind!

2008 Kesner Hudson Vineyard Chardonnay – This was a stunning example of how good California Chardonnay CAN be when done right.  Reminiscent of a Kistler or Marcassin, it had full body yet was light enough on its feet that it was not cloying.  Lovely pineapple and citrus with peach pit and wet stone fruit.  Great minerality and cut with a delightfully long finish.  Superb.

2005 Favia Cerro Sur – A great bottle with notes of dark chocolate, blackberries, and mocha on the nose. The Cab Franc really comes out on the palate bringing a soft velvety texture to the wine paired with lush black fruits and a subtle earthy note.

2006 Favia Cerro Sur – The 06 was a little more subdued than the 05 showing less fruit but with a more pronounced spice of sandalwood, vanilla, and coffee. The palate was excellent and well balanced with a long finish.

2007 Favia Cerro Sur – This was my favorite of the three Favia vintages showing fresh fruit and dark chocolate notes that were vibrant on the nose. The palate was soft with plush tannins that were well integrated into the wine.

2007 Robert Foley Howell Mountain Cabernet – This 1bottle is as delicious as it is hard to find. With only 100 cases produced this bottle can frustrating to find at times. The nose explodes with big cassis, nutmeg, vanilla, and dill. The palate shows great fruit with subtle floral notes and a load of cooking spice.

1946 Chateau Los Collas – A wonderful paring with desert the Lod Collas was soft and rich with spicy cherry, whole vanilla bean, and a orange zest.

After dinner it was time to pull out a new lineup of fantastic wines to enjoy while relaxing around the table.

1997 Chapoutier Chatenuef du Pape – This wine had all the lovely characteristics of a traditional CdP.  Iron, beef blood, and bacon dominated the nose.  Well balanced with a dose of black fruits, plums and black cherries.  Enough acidity to carry it through the palate and a healthy finish.

2008 Thibault Liger Nuits St. Georges “Charmotte” – A lovely taste of classic burgundy.  Restrained yet packed full of strawberries and red cherries.  A spicy mouthfeel with black tea and Asian five spice.

1994 Ridge Montebello – This was a real treat.  Deep dark color showing no bricking at the rim.  This is what I love about older classically styled California Cabs and Montebellos in particular.  This had all kinds of things going on in the glass, with cassis, leather, cocoa powder and black cherry flavors.  A magnificent wine that was showing perfectly.

1998 Pichon Lalande – Another great example of Pichon Lalande.  A nose of French funkiness, with gravel and slate, leather and a touch of coffee.  Still rich and dark this has years to go before it truly matures.

2006 Corra Cabernet Sauvignon – Wow this was an absolute killer bottle.  The last 06 I had was shortly after release and this bottle showed what a couple of years in the bottle will do.  Thick and rich, dark chocolate, cassis, black fruits, currant and vanilla, this had everything going on.  Wonderfully balanced at this stage.

2008 Rivers Marie Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir – Nice little Sonoma Coast pinot.  A little bigger framed than I am used to but nothing special.

2007 Conn Valley Right Bank – Lovely little right bank styled Bordeaux blend.  Soft velvety tannin and ripe plums with a touch of cocoa.  Love what CVV is doing with these moderately priced wines.

A few great bottles with a few great people

By: AJ McClellan

A few great bottles with a few great people just Simon, Dave, and I sitting around having a good ol’ time. We popped some stunning bottles, and cooked up some lamb on the grill in order to send Simon off in style for his vacation in England…

1998 Joseph Drouhin Batard Montrachet GC – An excellent bottle of Batard, with a floral nose of honeysuckle and pansies the wine took off after an hour in the glass. Subtle almond extract and toast started to come out then the caramelized pear and sweet peach notes. The finish showed fantastic limestone minerality with a hint of quince.

1988 Latour – Right out of the gate this bottle was strong with big earth notes of forest floor and clean compost there was a subtle backing of black fruit and tobacco smoke. The palate was more elegant in style with soft tannins and well integrated notes of black pepper, vegetable ash, and bramble.

1995 Guigal La Landonne – Last but not least, to go with the lamb, we pulled a bottle of the Guigal. As we popped the cork and poured the first glass Simon exclaimed “Ah, this pleases me” and it became the quote of the night. In truth the Guigal was quite pleasing with rich meaty notes of wild game seasoned with a heavy dose of pepper and cooked over night in a smoker.

Birthday with the MVP

By: AJ McClellan

We had MVP Dirk Nowitzki in for his 33rd birthday on Sunday catered by chef Francesco Farris and our own Chef Derrick Paez. The event was fantastic, dinner for 41 for number “41” including several Nobel Prize winners, Brian Cardinal, ESPN’s Mark Stein, Donnie Nelson, Mike Modano and many others. Before the dinner we were serenaded by a string quartet from the Dallas Symphony. After dinner the real fun began starting with Mike and Dirk firing off Champagne corks and guest star comedian Paul Varghese taking the stage to have us rolling with laughter.

For dinner we started with the 2009 Donnhoff Niederhauser Hermannshohle Spatlese which was drinking like a champ. I have always been a fan of Donhoff and Sundays bottle was a perfect example. Ripe white peaches with nectarine and a brilliant minerality. The Riesling was perfect with the Mozzarella salad.  After the Riesling Dirk’s private coach Holger asked us to pour a Italian for the pasta so we brought out the 2004 Banfi Brunello di Montalcino. The Brunello was stunning, from the great year of 2004 the fruit was forward and ripe with the classic Italian earth and mushrooms singing in the background.

For the main course, in true Graileys fashion, we served Dirk’s birth year wine. The 1978 Remoissenet Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru showed beautifully with a rustic nose of trumpet mushrooms and dusty red cherries. The palate of the Burgundy was as amazing as the nose with soft silky tannins and a rich earthiness that made a perfect pairing with the steak and suckling pig that was served for dinner.

Champagne Friday

By: AJ McClellan

One of my favorite tastings to do is Champagne Friday. This one was one of our better tastings of this theme with some fantastic bottles such as Armand de Brignac, Krug, and Salon making appearances.

NV Simonnet Febvre Rose – A light and quaffable rose, brilliant to start with because of its lightness on the palate and fresh acidity. This has long been a favorite of the bubbles in the $20 range.

MV Armand de Brignac Ace of Spades – This was one of the featured bottles of the night. This was an interesting multi-vintage champagne featuring 2002, 2003, and 2005. The bottle is the essence of “bling” with gold plating and a giant Ace of Spades emblem on the front of the bottle. For all the packaging, the bottle falls a little short for me. The wine is still very good, but when compared against other wines in the same price range it fails to meet expectations. That being said, I have not tried an example of the wine with age on it. Who knows, maybe the aggressive effervescence will mellow out a little and the wine will pull its self together with a decade or two in the bottle…

NV Krug Grand Cuvee – Now this bottle is always a pleasure to taste, Krug’s entry level wine selling at a third the price of the Armand de Brignac, the Krug is simply stunning with a refreshing nose of apricot and white peach I could sit with this bottle all day and never get tired of it.

1996 Nyetimber Blanc de Blanc – An interesting find by Simon, a fantastic bottle of bubbles from England! When I first tasted this wine I called it GC vintage Champagne because of the excellent minerality and elegance of the bottle. This bottle is a steal for only $70…

NV Ruinart – Another unsung hero, one of the dreaded Yellow Labels competitors, this bottle is a delight to drink with light peach and pear notes and a core of limestone that lets you know this wine is serious about quality.

NV Beau Joie Brut – This bottle has some of the most interesting packaging I have ever seen. Looking like it just came out of a bad medieval movie; the bottle was encased in an armor of pink chainmail that if anything gave the bottle a very distinctive look.

NV Beau Joie Rose – I was very impressed with this bottle; despite the gaudy packaging the wine was quite refined with a nose of light strawberries and subtle yeast. The palate was silky with elegant red fruits and a slight mineral backing.

1996 Salon – Salon is notorious for being a wine that needs time, but we simply could not give this bottle the additional 10 years that it needed… With time the 96 Salon is going to be one of the greats; even now the bottle is fantastic with creamy white peach essence and thinly sliced green apples. The thing that sets this wine apart from others is the delicate and involved network of minerality that threads through the wine holding together the creamy fruit and the blazing acidity with a perfect balance.

NV Mumm Cement – Another bargain wine that is fantastic, if you can find it… Originally this wine was only made for the friends and family of Mumm. Now, however, a small allocation is allowed into the market for your drinking pleasure. This wine tasted green and red pear with green apple and a soft floral note with a stone backing of blue rock.

2000 Pierre Peters Cuvee Le Chetillons – A lovely grower Champagne from the winemaker of La Grande Dame. Quince, pear, and nectarine on the nose with a lively yeast note on the nose. The palate is full and powerful with a great balance and long finish.

After all the bubbles were done it was time to dig into the locker and pull out some great wines for the table to share. We ended up staying long into the night drinking fine wines and munching down on some ordered pizza for the table.

1989 Jean Tardy NSG – A quaffable Burgundy with burnt cherry notes and a weak mineral note on the back end.

1999 Groffier Bonnes Mares GC – Burgundy is infamous, hooking you with a remarkable bottle then leaving you to chase the dragon looking for your next fix. Well, this is that mind blowing, epic, life changing bottle that will start people on that crazy winding path that we call the love of Burgundy. Brilliant nose of fresh strawberry patch, toast, vanilla, mushrooms, and forest floor. The palate is a weekend at the spa, starting you off with a cleansing of fresh red fruits then moving to an earthiness that gives your palate an invigorating mud bath, and last but not lease is the rejuvenating massage of acidity and minerality that finish you off with pure delight.

1999 Lynch Bages – Classic Bordeaux with graphite, plum, black cherry and bold forest floor. I was very impressed with this wine despite its youth; I thought it was drinking like a champ.

2008 Kesner Hudson Vineyard Chardonnay – This single vineyard Chard from Kesner gives me hope for Napa Valley Chardonnays. The wine shows excellent fruit with white peaches and lemon zest. There is also a distinct toast that reminds me of a great White Burgundy.

2008 OV Cabernet Sauvignon – The second label of Futo wines, this Cab S, Cab F, and PV blend is quite delicious. Ripe juicy fruit with big tobacco and dark chocolate let you know this second label means business.

2001 d’Yquem – This was my first time to taste the 100 point Sauterne. WOW!! What a wine, sweet nectarine, ripe apricot, steamed quince, honeysuckle, and vanilla bean on the nose. The palate was remarkable; walking that tightrope of sweetness and acidity that d’Yquem does so well.

Dog Point

By: AJ McClellan

James Healy and Ivan Sutherland dropped in today as an unexpected surprise with the current release of their Dog Point wines out of New Zealand. I have been a fan of Dog Point since I tasted their 2006 Section 94 that blew my socks off! The vines of Dog Point are on average 18 years of age and produce a remarkably low yield of 2 tons an acre.

In speaking to James and Ivan they told me of their 12 years together making wine at Cloudy Bay, after the vineyard was bought by LVMH (Louis Vuitton Möet Hennessy) they went out to purchase their own vineyard and make an outstanding wine of their own. The production of Dog Point is very small with the Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay averaging 1500 cases a year. It amazes me out meticulous they are with their harvesting and sorting processes taking out the under and over ripe grapes to give their wines a remarkable clean taste and brilliant reflection of the Marlborough Terroir.

2009 Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc - Banana leaf, tangerine, and bright citrus notes on the nose. The palate shows a rich creaminess with bright acidity and long finish. This is a brilliant wine for the price point that blows the competitors away.

2008 Dog Point Chardonnay – This is a truly special wine with a great bubblegum nose that also shows a touch of flint and a hint of vanilla bean. The palate is amazing with a zingy acidity and lovely toast notes. This is a brilliant wine for summer drinking or just to pop and pour with friends.

2008 Dog Point Pinot Noir – Gorgeous luminescent purple in the glass with a nose of fresh voiles and perfectly ripe Bing cherries and red currants. The palate shows a great minerality with light elegant fruits that caress the tongue and a fantastic finish that lasts for a good 30 seconds.

La Spinetta

By: AJ McClellan

I was introduced to La Spinetta early in 2009 and since then I have been impressed every time I have tried their wines. We had Tamer Harpke, the regional sales manager for Indigenous Imports, and with him a lineup of great Italian wines.

2009 La Spinetta Vermintino – Mello melon with light floral notes and a easy going acidity. A pleasant minerality and nice long finish.

2008 Rocca del Principe Fiano di Avellino – Little funk on the nose with white summer flowers and a lemon zest. There is a note of ocean spray on the finish with a nice minerality. The palate is very pleasant with tropical fruits and well balanced acidity.

NV Bianca Vigna Prosecco Brut – Daffodil on the nose with subtle spice and a hint of star fruit. The palate was nice and creamy with a mild effervescence.

2007 La Spinetta Ca di Pian Barbera d’ Asti – Sour cherry on the nose with some forest floor funk and light hints of chocolate. The palate was very nice with excellent balance and length.

2007 La Spinetta Langhe Nebbiolo  – Sweet plum and dark chocolate with black cherries and subtle sandal wood. The palate shows great fruit with chocolate block and pleasant earth. Hints of mushroom and roasted blueberry with great earth on the finish.

2007 La Spinetta Pin – An interesting blend of 65% Nebbiolo and 35% Barbera. The nose is very fresh with ripe blue fruit and blooming floral notes. Almost Gamay like with its freshness and bright fruit but a great depth and acidity that makes this a very complete wine. Almost candy like finish.

2007 Rocca del Principe Taurasi – 100% Aglianico, and boy this is a block buster. The nose shows cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin spice, mushrooms, plums, lavender, and old gym sock. The palate is massive with tight tannins and a background of Italy funk. This bottle has the stuffings to go for another 20 years easily.

2003 Coclto Barbaresco Baluchin Riserva – The nose blossoms with roses and red cherries followed by old leather and cedar notes. There is a distinct wood spice floating in the background. The palate shows big tannins but with the surprisingly light mouth feel that Nebbiolo will give you. Very nice bottle of wine…

2010 La Spinetta Bricco Quaglia Moscato d’Asti – I love Moscato d’Asti! A fresh clean nose of tropical fruits with sweet summer flowers and overripe melons. The palate was refreshing and clean with a hint of sweetness.

It is good to beat the Heat

By: AJ McClellan

Friday was great. Our spirits were high from our win over the Heat on Thursday and it was time to drink some wine!

2007 Lafon Macon Chardonnay – A great way to start the night. Coming in from the Texas heat to a cool glass of Burgundy is the way to go. Lemon zest with a hint of summer flowers and a light spice characteristic.

2007 Delille D2 – A great Washington wine that shows big deep juicy black and red cherries, black currants, and a wave of wood spices. The palate is full and heavy with thick tannins and a crisp acidity.

2001 Poggio Rosso Chianti Classico – A stark contrast to the Delille with a lighter body and softer fruit followed by a earthy notes of barnyard and hay stacks. A great example of a Chianti in its prime.

2005 Denis Mortet Gevrey Chambertin Cinq Terroirs – Mortet makes some great juice. This bottle showed an excellent balance with red fruits marching in tune with the deep earth notes of wild mushrooms and forest floor.

2006 The Sisters Cabernet Sauvignon – One of my favorite Cabernets in this price range. The Sisters is full of life and getting better with more time in the bottle soft black plums followed by dark red cherries and a light dap of clove and vanilla extract make this wine a delight to drink.

1998 Latour a Pomerol – Classic Bordeaux. Big earth up front with tilled earth, wet Labrador, stinky socks, and all the funky goodness of a great bottle of Bordeaux. There was still a backbone of fruit showing dark currants and cherries. A loang finish of excellent balance made this wine a great bottle to pop now but also suggest that it will get even better with more time in the bottle.

2008 Cheval de Andes – Ah, Malbec. Big and juicy it is easy to see why so many people love this wine.

2007 Livio Felluga Map Label Pinot Grigio – Possibly one of my favorite Pinot Grigio’s from Italy. Fresh pear with a hint of green apple and deep concentrated body.

2008 En Route Pinot Noir – An excellent Pinot Noir. This bottle has more body than most with a big head of fruit followed by easy going acidity and a handful of cooking spices thrown in for fun.

Not a Typical Thursday

By: AJ McClellan

Not Your average Thursday, we had Justin from Gargiulo Vineyards in to taste us through the current lineup of wines. Justin was a blast, very knowledgeable with a great attitude towards wine. Gargiulo vineyards are located directly adjacent to the famed vineyard of Screaming Eagle and the quality of their wines are apparent. After the tasting we all hung out and drank some great wines while watching the Mavs beat up on the Heat!!

2007 Gargiulo Aprile – An impressive sample of Napa valley Sangiovese. Light and quaffable with classic dusty cherry and notes of apple pie spice on the back end.

2006 Gargiulo Money Road Ranch Merlot – A great bottle of Merlot, showing ripe notes of currant, raspberry, and blueberries. The palate was full of lush fruit and held an excellent balance.

2007 Gargiulo Money Road Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon – I was very impressed with this wine. Coming from a vineyard adjacent to the famed Screaming Eagle the fruit was fantastic with very pleasant tannins and a long finish of tobacco and leather.

2007 Gargiulo 575 OVX G Major Cabernet Sauvignon – Gargiulo’s Reserve, this bottle was excellent. Soft savory tannins with subtle notes of freshly picked cherries and plums on the palate. The finish showed light notes of barley, cooking spices, and worn leather. A great bottle of wine.

2007 Erna Schein Knockout – Big boy on campus with huge dark fruits and big spicy notes of black pepper.

1990 Chateau Monelena –  This was one of the camps of the night. The fruit was still kicking with currants, and cherries there was also a subtle backing of chocolate and a subtle minerality.

2008 Dominus – This bottle was so good we couldn’t not help but to open another bottle. Great fruit with surprising softness.

1999 Trapet Chambertin –I was obsessed with this wine about four months ago and tasting this wine again was like being united with an old friend. Smooth on the palate with succulent red fruits and a damp earthiness that was exactly what I look for an a great Burgundian wine.

2006 Arcadian Westerly Pinot Noir – A fun bottle with fresh acidity and bright red fruits followed by a subtle minerality.

2009 En Route Pinot Noir – A more boisterous style of Pinot with loud cherries and raspberries backed by a wall of spice.

2005 Materium – THs bottle was drinking great with heavy cooking spice and a subtle note of cedar. The fruit was big and bold without being over powering. Excellent balance and length on the palate.

2003 Sequoia Grove Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon – I was surprised by this bottle. In a blind tasting I called it Australian Cabernet because if the hefty dose of Mint on the palate. A very nice wine for the price point.

1998 Pichon Lalande – Always a classic with old forest floor and dusty red and blue fruit Pichon never fails to show up strong in a tasting.

1983 l’Evangile – This wine is a stud. Fantastic floral notes of purple flowers and a subtle spice of nutmeg, and clove. The palate was full of life showing dry cranberries, and prunes.

1997 Rouget Vosne Romanee 1er Les Beaumonts – This bottle was a little disappointing with a almost flat palate and very little fruit, I kept it in my glass for an hour in hopes that it would rebound but it never did. Dave said that it got better towards the end of the night but I did not have the opportunity to taste it…
