Last night was a good one at Graileys with a truck load of wines opened around the table. Below are a few highlights of the night.
NV Gonet Medeville Rose – A great bottle of Rose that we have had many times. The new release is very nice with pleasant strawberries and cream notes.
2009 Gonet Medeville Chateau Eyrins – I was very impressed with this wine. Great dark fruit with balanced earth notes and surprisingly soft tannins.
1995 Pichon Lalande – Pichon is always a great bottle of wine. The 95 is in a good drinking window with soft tannins and good fruit. I would not age this wine for more than 5 years…
2007 Shafer Hillside Select – A monster wine that needed three hours of decanting before it was ready to drink. Big black fruits with huge spicy notes.
2008 Cing Cepages – I was very impressed with this wine. The fruit is big and bold with balanced tannins and a lengthy finish. A vast improvement over the 07 vintage and a bottle that I would stock up on as I think it will get much better.
2003 Pape Clement – We have had this bottle several times and it never fails to impress. Great earth and the fruit is still ripe, my wine of the night.
2009 Evening Land Summum Pinot Noir – This bottle is a gooden with a big nose of smoke and black cherries and a smooth palate of freshly picked fruit and great minerality. This is a great bottle of wine with tons of potential.
2004 JJ Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese – An outstanding bottle of wine. I could drink this all day by the pool… Crisp fruit notes of pear and green apple followed by a slight petrol note. Off dry on the palate with great balance.
