One of Napa’s classics dropped by Graileys for a quick afternoon tasting on his current lineup. We are always happy to see Ivan the Fiver walk in but when he walked in with Bob Egelhoff- what a treat! Although it was just for a brief moment- literally, it was a quick hello, taste and boomf they were off for the Cotes du Coeur- the lineup was great and Bob is a character one can’t forget. Bob Egelhoff is a superstar when it comes to making wines for some of Napa’s icons such as Merryvale, Pahlmeyer, Staglin, Robert Craig and Harlan. Much like the wines he has made in the past, Bob’s personal wines hold the essence of Napa- these are classic examples of Napa’s beautiful fruit made into gorgeous wines that you do not want to miss!
2012 Egelhoff Russian River Pinot Noir- This is a super small production Pinot Noir (only 168 cases made!) from the Lauterbach vineyard in the heart of Russian River Valley. It is brightly aromatic and on the palate it just goes down way too easy with its sweet cherries and crushed raspberries. The texture is soft and plush and the rich flavors lead into lingering sweet finish.
2009 Egelhoff Cabernet Sauvignon- Smoking!! Showing at a beautiful spot right now with rich aromas of black cherry and spice followed by dense flavors of black cherry, cocoa, vanilla, mocha and blackberry. This is a richly textured, full bodied Cabernet that offers a lot of depth with its layered flavors that just stick to every crevice in the palate. The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy and the finish is long.
